No limit - we walked the line

Last Friday went good... not only because of the new Jonny Cash CD. I was also able to play out of the chip leader position the whole evening. Doc A had to get another 5 € bankroll after 2 hours or so. He managed it to keep it very long indeed. But then we changed into no-limit-mode. Quarter past twelve - we were already rather exhausted - he decided to go all in with a king and a seven (as far as I remember). I had an Ace and a nine in the pocket and called. The flop was really nothing worth... My heart went boom, boom, boom. I think the turn or river was a queen, but nothing which could determine the game. So I won luckily with the high card.

Work and poker

Today's session is scheduled for 8 pm at my place. We are only three players so far. Some guys have to go to a Basketball match, others are in Rome. I got the saddest excuse from a friend of ours who sent me a short message from work yesterday night at half past eleven (!). He could't make it today as he had been very busy this week. I send him hereby me deep sympathy and a quote from the film "Closer" I happened to watch when I got his message.

Scene in a bar in the heart of London. ANNA (Julia Robers) and LARRY (Clive Owen), who split up recently, sit on a table.

ANNA: How's work?
LARRY (angry): Oh Jesus, work's shit, okay!

Rounders - the Poland-Version

Hey Poker-Friends,

I recently watched "Rounders", the Poker-Film with Matt Damon. My assessment: A good movie and a "must" for all Texas hold'em players. The story is like you would expect in a classical Hollywood-Film, i.e. at the beginning the hero looses a real fat pot (nearly all of his money) when he hold a full house but trapped into a higher full house with 3 Aces. Then, he promised never to gamble again (remember Rocky II-VI: "I will never box again..."). Certainly, he gambles again - and, first, looses again. At the end: The big show-down. A great match: The turning point is when he recognizes a tell of his opponent and this time avoids to trap into the made hand. With a small straight he wins big and finally becomes a poker pro. Collateral damages: On the way he looses his girl-friend, his law-studies and his best friend.

Unfortunately, Mr. T gave me the version for Poland of the film, i.e. in the english language but with Polish subtitles. Since some actors mumble big and the loudness of the speakers strongly differs some parts are hard to understand if you are not enabled to read the Polish subtitles (whereto no one is enabled to besides Mr. T)...

I asses four As of five.
