Hold'em in Germany

You have to read the interesting reportage in "Welt am Sonntag" by Matthias Wulf which is concerened with the fast-growing Poker business in Germany. Wulf participated in a Hold'em no limit tournament at the Berliner Spielbank. The winner would qualify for the participation at the German Poker Championships.

Desperate Houswives

I admit that Desperate Houswives is something which is only distantly related to Texas Hold'em. But as Mr. A and me were wondering why season 2 was so short, I made some researches. The answer: It wasn't short at all - they have just shown us Part 2 of Season 1 on television! Season 2 is still running on ABC and not finished yet. But you can read here how it will continue. Oh by the way: There will be no Hold'em session next weekend. Mr. Ducks is probably going to invite you to his place on the first Sat. in December.

Stud poker

Yesterday night I watched Cincinnati Kid by Norman Jewison. Steve McQueen - who died nearly 25 years ago in the age of only 50 - plays the poker game of his life versus Lancey Howard, the grand homme of poker - a myth. Anyway, they play 5 cards stud poker. I haven't played it yet. But it seems to be fun. You know all cards of your opponents but one. Always the guy with the higher (open) hand is the first to bet.

And the winner is... the pot

Friday, 8.15 pm: My expectations were high. Two hours later I faced a series of approximately 40 losses. How is that possible - I asked myself. On the other side Mr. D did an amazing job. He won and won and... you know. Then came sort of a turnaround - maybe 15 pretty good starting hands and a flush which won against Mr.D's double pairs. After 4 hours I reduced my loss fortunately to five euros. The other turnovers were not high either. Mr A. + 5, Mr. D -2, Mr. G -10. The good news: our community pod grew to over 40 euros!

Mr.D's blogger name

Did anybody know what Mr. D tried to tell us with his blogger name "Ducks22"? I didn't catch it at once. Yesterday he told me: Ducks - i.e. a pair of two - are his favorite hand as only he is able to play (and lose) them!

Next Session on Friday

On behalf of Mr. G - who claims his computer skills do not go beyond e-mail writing - I notify that our next session is taking place at Mr. G's place on Friday. Mr. B is not going to participate due to a trip to Copenhagen. As usual I kindly ask you to take enough money along;-)
